Birmingham Theory Test Centre Directions
Car
The venue is just on the western edge of the city centre on the Queensway (A4400), which directly links to the A38 to the city’s north. Birmingham is also easily accessible via the M5, M6, and M42. Given the test centre’s central location, there are numerous parking options in the local area. We’ve highlighted two nearby car parks below, but please visit the relevant Parkopedia page if you would like to consider alternative sites.
Lower Lionel Street Car Park
This car park is open 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Parking charges alter slightly between weekdays and weekends. Monday-Friday fees are as follows:
- 2 hours = £3
- 3 hours = £4
- 4 hours = £5
Given the proximity of this facility to the testing venue, it’s extremely unlikely that you’ll need additional time to what’s listed above. However, if you’re planning to extend your stay in Birmingham, prices rise gradually by the hour. Please also note that 24-hour tickets are available from this site, at a charge of £8.50. Weekend fees are slightly cheaper than the numbers expressed above.
Cash and card (including contactless) payments are accepted, and customers can also pay by phone. To use the PayByPhone service in operation at this car park, please either call 0330 400 7275, or text 65565, quoting the Location ID, 7960.
The test centre is a short, six-minute walk from here. Use Ludgate Hill to merge onto Queensway, turn right, and continue approximately 350m to the venue.
Great Charles Street
Again, this site is open all day, every day. This car park operates exactly the same pricing structure as Lower Lionel Street Car Park.
Cash or payment via the RingGo platform is accepted at this facility. To pay using this phone service, please either call 0121 3670000 or SMS 81025, referencing Location ID, 37765.
This car park is located just off Ludgate Hill, a minute’s walk away from the Lower Lionel Street site. Therefore, please follow the onwards travel guidance above.

Bus
As you would expect, there are numerous bus services which head towards Birmingham city centre. We’ve pulled out four routes, which travel into the city from four different directions.
- 110: The number 110 operates between Birmingham and Tamworth, travelling in northeast/southwest directions. If using this service, please exit at Snow Hill Queensway, which is just short of a kilometre away from the test site. Please head north before turning left on Queensway. Follow the road southbound towards the test centre. There are connecting bus services, but these will still leave you with a five-minute onwards walk to the venue. Given that the overall walk will take less than ten minutes, we would advise making your way on foot.
- 12: This service heads east/west, journeying between Birmingham city centre and Dudley. Please leave the bus at Colmore Row. Head south, and turn right onto Newhall Street. At the end of this road, you’ll emerge onto Queensway; the test centre is located on the opposite side of the road, around 50m to your left-hand side.
- 35: This route connects Hawksley on the southern outskirts of the city, to Birmingham city centre. Please exit at Moor Street. The venue is just over one kilometre away from this destination, and involves a walk through the heart of Birmingham’s shopping district. Head west along Union Street, cut through the ground of St. Phillips Cathedral, and then use Newhall Street to navigate to the test site in the same way mentioned above. Alternatively, you could use the 23 Platinum Bethley Green service to facilitate your onwards travel to Queensway. This bus has a scheduled stop on Moor Street, and will drop you directly opposite the test centre.
4A: This transit line is in place between Robin Hood Island and Birmingham, and services travel in southeast/northwest directions. Please exit at ‘Church Centre’ stop, where this bus terminates. The walk to the venue is basically a condensed version of the walk from Moor Street, with the routes converging just outside Marks & Spencer. There are connecting bus services available, but, as this would only shave off roughly two minutes walking time, we would once again recommend just travelling on foot.

Train
Please note that tram services are currently suspended across Birmingham. Please click the following link for live progress, and for travel information when issues are rectified.
The test centre is situated close to two local train stations, Birmingham Snow Hill which operates services in and around the Midlands area, and Birmingham New Street.
To reach the venue from Birmingham Snow Hill, please use Livery Street to access Queensway, turn left, and advance approximately 650m to the test site.
If going to the test centre from Birmingham New Street, please head northwest, moving through Stephenson Street, Pinfold Street, and Chamberlain Street to arrive at Queensway. Turn right, and progress north; the venue will emerge on your left-hand side. This journey will take roughly nine minutes. Please note, there are no appropriate bus routes which might reduce your walking time.
