Sheffield Theory Test Centre Directions
Car
Sheffield is easily reachable via a range of road and public transport links. If driving, please be aware that the A61 loops around the perimeter of the city, and therefore provides access to a number of areas within Sheffield. The M1, running past the city’s eastern outskirts, is the main motorway that serves Sheffield and its surrounding districts.
The test site itself is based within St. James House, which is situated on Vicar Lane, just slightly to the north of Sheffield city centre. As there is extremely limited on-site parking available, we’ve selected a couple of nearby parking options below. If you would like to review any alternative car park sites, please head to the relevant Parkopedia page, which highlights all parking facilities in the local area.
Campo Lane Car Park
This site is based virtually on top of the test centre, with a very short, onwards walk to the venue. Entry to St. James House is based just around the corner, and can be accessed via walking east on Campo Lane, and then turning right into Vicar Lane. The venue will be around 50m away, on your right-hand side.
This car park is open from 7.00am-10.00pm, Monday to Sunday. Parking charges are as follows:
- 1 hour = £2.95
- 2 hours = £5.90
- 3 hours = £8.85
Prices gradually increase as more hours are added. If you’re planning to stay in Sheffield beyond your testing slot, please be aware that this site also offers a 24-hour ticket, at a cost of £22.95.
All payment types are accepted at this facility, and disabled parking is available.

Pennine Five Car Park
Car park operational hours are 6.00am-10.00pm, Monday to Sunday. This site is cheaper than Campo Lane, but is slightly further away. Parking costs are mentioned below:
- 1 hour = £0.50
- 2 hours = £1.00
- 3 hours = £1.50
Prices continue to rise in increments. Again, if keen to extend your visit to Sheffield, please note that 24-hour tickets can be purchased for £7.50.
To pay for parking, please use either card (contactless accepted) or the PayByPhone service line. To use this phone payment platform, call 0114-207-4073, or text 65565, quoting Location ID, 804507.
This facility is just a two-minute southbound walk away from the venue. Please head down Lee Croft, and merge onto Vicar Lane. The test centre will be on your right-hand side.
Bus
As you’ll likely expect, there are multiple bus routes in operation that service Sheffield city centre. We’ve picked out three key transit lines, which accommodate travel from any general direction of travel.
- 2: The number 2 route connects Barnsley and Sheffield, with buses travelling in north/south directions between either destination. If using this service, please exit at Haymarket. To reach the test site from here, turn right onto King Street, and then head westbound, continuing beyond Hartshead Square and onto Campo Lane. Progress in the same direction until you hit Vicar Lane junction, and then turn left. St. James House will be positioned approximately 50m away, on your left-hand side.
- 24: This service heads between Bradway on the city’s western outskirts, to Woodhouse in the east end of Sheffield, and cuts through the city centre. Please leave the bus at Arundel Gate. From here, head northbound, and then advance west along High Street towards York Street. At the end of York Street, turn left onto Campo Lane. Again, turn left at the Vicar Lane junction, and progress to the test site.
- X5: This bus shuttles between Dinnington and Sheffield city centre, heading in east/west directions. Please exit at Flat Street, which is located adjacently to Arundel Gate. Use the walkway between the First-Degree Living building and the O2 Academy to emerge on Arundel Gate. Please then follow the guidance above to complete your journey to the test centre.
Further bus routes into Sheffield city centre can be found via the relevant ‘Moovit’ webpage, located here
Train
Sheffield has a tram line that offers great transport links throughout the city. If using the tram, alight at the Cathedral tram stop. This destination is just a short, three-minute walk from the venue. Head west on Church Street, and then turn right to advance north on Vicar Lane. The site is towards the end of the street, located on your left-hand side.
Sheffield Train Station station is around 1km from the venue, and the onwards journey will take less than fifteen minutes by foot.
Exit the station and progress uphill, passing Sheffield Hallam University and crossing over Arundel Gate onto Surrey Street. Head northwest bound, taking Pinstone Street to merge onto Leopold Street. Advance and take the slight right at the roundabout, continuing northbound up Orchard Street. Head over the Church Street crossroads onto Vicar Lane; the venue is around 100m from here, up on your left-hand side.
There is a bus service that will get you close to the site, but, given the distances, this will only shave around two minutes off your overall journey. If opting for this route, please exit the station via Sheaf Square, cross Sheaf Street, and locate Pond Street bus stop on your right-hand side. The 95A Walkley service will take you to High Street bus stop, which sits adjacent to the Cathedral tram stop.
For station information, including departure and arrival times, facilities and services, please head to the National Rail website.
