Approaching a junction

A junction is a point where two or more roads meet. Junctions are hazards, where there’s a significant risk of an incident occurring. Treat them with great care, no matter how easy they look.

Advance information

Look for information about the junction ahead, and the level of difficulty, such as • the type of junction

  • the amount of traffic
  • warning signs
  • road markings
  • direction signs
  • ‘give way’ and ‘stop’ signs • traffic lights
  • a break in the line of buildings • changes in the road surface.

Priority

Usually, road signs and markings indicate priority. Where no priority is shown at a junction, take care and don’t rush.
